Skin Secrets

June 17th, 2014 • Posted by Absolute Nirvana • Permalink

As a client, you can learn a lot about your skin during a facial. Our esthetician will analyze your skin to see which kind of facial treatments are best for you. Here's a look what happens during a skin analysis and what you stand to learn.

Visual check

Long before any creams or mask go on your face, our esthetician will take a look at your face. He or she will look for oily patches, dry spots, redness and fine lines. You'll also fill out a quick form that lets them know a little more about your skin.

The first step in a facial is to cleanse your skin. During this step, all the makeup and dirt is removed. With a clear palate our esthetician can get a better look at your skin and it's overall appearance.

Magnifying lamp

With your skin bare, they will look at your skin under a magnifying lamp. This shows our esthetician any skin irritations or imperfections that aren't visible by the naked eye. You'll be told what's good about your skin and what can be done to improve it. A facial treatment is then suggested and once you've agreed to it the relaxing part begins.

Don't be afraid to ask questions about your skin's condition or your skin type so you can better treat your skin in between facial appointments.

Don't Forget to Ask these 4 Questions of Your Wedding Photographer

June 2nd, 2014 • Posted by Absolute Nirvana • Permalink

Picking a wedding photographer is one of the most time consuming parts of wedding planning. After all, you'll be showing these pictures to your grandchildren. When you're interviewing photographers, be sure to ask these three questions:

What's included in the price?

Some photographers have a flat fee for their services but charge you separately to print photos. Other photographers will load all the pictures to a file-sharing site where it becomes your responsibility to print the pics and share them with friends. Either way, you need to know what's included in the price.

Do you do video as well?

Some companies will offer both video and still photos. Of course, you'll pay more for these services, but if it's something you want, it's worth looking into.

Will you use the pictures for promotional purposes?

If you don't want a picture of you and your groom shoving cake into each others face on the main page of the photographer's website, you'll want to look into this possibility.

What's the timeline?

Summer is the busiest time for wedding photographers, so if you're planning to get hitched in June, July or August, you'll probably have to wait a bit longer for your pictures to be ready. A quality photographer will edit each one and make sure they look stellar before handing them over to you. Still, you'll want to know when your photos will be done.

Preemies Need Massage Too

May 14th, 2014 • Posted by Absolute Nirvana • Permalink

A recent study shows massage therapy helps babies who are born too early. Preemies, which are born at least three weeks before the 40 week pregnancy term, are often troubled with health problems.

Preemies are closely monitored in newborn intensive care units, but even small stresses can become big problems for these little ones. From heart problems to separation anxiety, preemies are up against a fair amount of odds.

As research continues to help a growing number of preemies lead normal lives, one study shows the significance of massage.

A massage therapist, trained in baby massage, gave preemies two 20-minute massages everyday for a month. The results from the University of Utah study showed improved heart rate and reduced stress, particularly in baby boys.

Researchers speculate hormone levels may be the reason why boys receive more benefit from massage than girls, but the study does not offer any scientific reason for the varying response.

Other studies have shown massage can help babies of all sizes with weight gain, bone density and improved immune response. Some hospitals offer classes in baby massage, which allows parents to understand the techniques needed to give their little one a massage at home. If you're interested, ask your doctor if such a program exists at your hospital. If not, ask us to point you in the right direction.
